Summary: The incumbent is responsible for professional level Accounting work providing audits and analysis of San Felipe Pueblo Enterprises financial and information systems to see that adequate internal controls are in place to ensure accurate accounting and compliance with Government, National Indian Gaming Commission, and Minimum Internal Control Standards guidelines and laws. This includes but is not limited to; audits and analysis of various journals, ledgers, and accounts, analysis and presentation of financial data, financial statements and expenditures reports, audit and analysis of various month end vouchers and invoices for payment, payroll data, proper allocation of funds to various accounts or functions, financial policy and procedures, and other similar activities. Reviews, evaluates, and makes recommendations to the Finance Director for the correction and/or improvement of internal, operational, and management control systems and organizational performance. This position also includes the preparation and posting of various journals, ledgers and accounts, analysis and presentation of financial data, and preparation of financial statements and expenditure reports, review and approval of various and other similar activities.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

  • Maintain enterprise culture and employee engagement.
  • Build good relationships with all customers both internal and external.
  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
  • Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close.
  • Ensure the timely reporting of all monthly financial information.
  • Assist the Controller in the daily banking requirements.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely processing of positive pay transactions.
  • Ensure the monthly and quarterly Bank Compliance activities are performed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Supports budget and forecasting activities.
  • Collaborates with the other finance department managers to support overall department goals and objectives.
  • Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.
  • Responds to inquiries from the Director of Finance, Controller, and other finance and firm wide managers regarding financial results, special reporting requests and the like.
  • Work with the Controller to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit.
  • Supervise the general ledger group to ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met.
  • Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.
  • Provide training to new and existing staff as needed.
  • Handle personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc.
  • Work with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff.
  • Support Controller with special projects and workflow process improvements.
  • Display good communication skills including persuasion, and negotiation skills required in working with customers and or coworkers and including the ability to communicate effectively and remain calm and courteous under pressure.
  • Works collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
  • Effectively communicates with all departments within San Felipe.
  • Comply with enterprise and departmental procedural guidelines, SOPs and safety procedures.
  • Contribute to a team-oriented, continuous improvement, quality process.

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related degree AND 3 years professional level Accounting experience of which 2 years should include supervisory duties; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

 

Math Ability:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have must have advanced skills related to Word, Excel, Internet, financial software and typing. Must also have the ability to work in a very fast paced environment, multi task, and change priorities as needed.
